This is a wonderful meat loaf. The sweet smoothness of the maple syrup balances the savory ham. It makes perfect next-day  sandwiches.

    Meat Loaf

    • 1 pound ground ham
    • 3/4 pound ground pork
    • 2 eggs
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 3/4 dry bread crumbs

    Sauce

    • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
    • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
    • 1/4 teaspoon cloves

In a large bowl, beat eggs and stir in milk. Stir in bread crumbs. Add ground ham and ground pork, combining well. Form into 10×5 loaf shape in an 11×7 baking dish.

In small bowl, whisk together sauce ingredients. Pour half over meat, reserving the remainder.

Bake loaf, uncovered, at 350 degrees for about an hour (160 degrees on a meat thermometer.) Baste frequently with remaining sauce. Remove from oven and let stand for about 10 minutes before slicing.
